Team Development Program – GTHL A & AA

Ted Reeve Thunder is extremely proud to be part of the next generation of highly skilled hockey players. We have adopted Hockey Canada’s new Long Term Player Development guidelines LTPD Model for Hockey Players | Stages of Athlete Development for teaching this great Canadian game and support our players in developing their skills and athleticism so they can compete at the highest levels.

This specifically designed program engages some of the most elite and professional hockey instructors in the country. Our instructors have not only played at the highest levels they have and continue to train NHL, AHL, OHL and GTHL elite players. The goal is to train hard while learning and having fun. Competitive and fast past practices are the key to individual and team success.

Meet Our Trainers

The Ted Reeve Thunder hockey development program brings professional coaches together with our teams to develop our players’ skills and team strategies.

We’re very excited to introduce to you our top-notch team, instructors with NHL, OHL, NCAA and PWHL playing and teaching experience, that will lead the program in the 2023-24 season.

Tyler Randell

A passionate instructor whose experiences in the AHL and NHL help make the difference for players at all ages. He is excited to teach players in game-like settings so they play the way they practice – with intensity and passion. His philosophy is that teamwork is crucial.

Lorne Hunchuk

Lorne drives exceptional performance through incredible instruction – all while having a big smile on his face. Lorne coaches GTHL AAA teams, and has coached Jr. A for 15 years. He’s a Hockey Canada High Performance-certified elite skills coach. Lorne continues to train Junior and NHL players. He’s an unbelievable instructor. Just ask the pros!

Stephanie Gastman

Truly an energetic and positive person with a passion for teaching, Stephanie’s hockey experiences include many accolades for her ability to play and coach competitive hockey players at the highest levels. Stephanie was one of the only women in Ontario to play AAA men’s hockey. She was also the captain of the Aurora Panthers Junior A team, played in the PWHL and with the provincial champion Mississauga Chiefs Junior A. She’s coached AAA for almost 10 years, as well as being a power skating instructor. Her knowledge of the game and the ability to coach kids of all ages is a huge addition to our program!

Reid Acton

Welcome a local sports legend to the Ted Reeve team! Reid is a former OHL draft pick, Boston Jr Bruins and AAA coach. His on-ice and dryland instruction abilities are outstanding! Having been an NCAA Division 1 lacrosse champion and a professional athlete also allows Reid to provide insight and motivation to the players who want to get to the next level.

Tate Phillips

NHL, OHL and NCAA players seek out Tate to up their game. In fact, local Beach legend, Stanley Cup winner and recent Toronto Maple Leaf, Ryan O’Reilly, is one of his biggest fans! His ability to teach and train players so they are successful in “game-like” scenarios is recognized at the highest levels and is key in everything he does!

Mike Hollander

Mike is a highly respected in his fields having been a Junior A and NCAA player, and a AAA coach for years. We’re excited to have his experience on the ice and on the bench at Ted Reeve!

Andrew Cresenzi

Andrew is a former NHL forward who played with the L.A. Kings, as well as the Toronto Marlies and Ontario Reign in the AHL. Andrew is constantly being recognized for his ability to work with and motivate the next generation of hockey players. He’s been there and gets it.

Josh Fontana

Josh is a former Junior A player and respected coach. Josh is a highly recognized professional athletic trainer on and off the ice. He will get your kids in game shape all while having fun and developing to their peak. Josh is a personal trainer for current NHL, OHL and NCAA athletes.

Sonja Weidenfelder

Captain of Team Germany come back to where her career actually started! Former Ted Reeve Tyke and Thunder player, Sonja has played and trained at the highest levels. She is very competitive and motivated to help the next generation of hockey stars. She has taught and trained hockey players for years and we are so proud to welcome her home and on board.

Daryl Devonish

Daryl brings great experience and passion to the game – both on and off the ice! A personal trainer, educator and former high-level hockey player, he has trained top level athletes including numerous NHL hockey players. He is a huge addition to the Ted Reeve organization on so many levels and the kids love working with him.  Daryl will ensure the younger age players at Ted Reeve are set up for incredible development and success.
